Letter from Elder Morton, 02.23.09

Subject: I’m ALIVE!
Date: Mon, 23 Feb 2009 15:37:53

Yo family and friends!

I’m alive and well in the jungle. I’m in the same zone as my buddy’s from the same group as me,

Elder Hyde, Elder Layton, Elder Rojas, Elder Quintana and Elder Rich is one of our zone leaders!
Oh yes when it doesn’t rain its HOT and HUMID! I like it though. I have wanted to go to the jungle and now I’m here. I am taking as many pictures as I can so you guys get an idea what it’s like here.

The first few days were tough getting used to everything. I was lost the whole time and we had very few investigators to work with and we didn’t know hardly anyone because my companion has only a week here more than I. Things as of yesterday are coming together and I think we will have success here. The food so far hasn’t been too crazy, but I will eat whatever they put in front of me the first time because its part of the experience.

Mom, yes go to the gym as often as physically possible, be stubborn about it if you have to!

That’s cool that my nephew Ryder is like his father Mike when he was a kid, good! (he likes adventure)! That’s a shame Mike and Sunny are having to sell their condo. I hope things turn around real soon for the good of the old USA! I think the mom staying home to raise the kids is a great idea for most families. I think it’s great also that Mike and Sunny have found those good family values such as going to church every Sunday. Please tell Sunny Happy Birthday for me since I can’t do it myself.

In my last box I got the ponchos and I needed it because the first two days it rained without stop. I got the hair stuff in the other box you sent (I got 2) and I gave it to my zone leader in Barranca! Jungle food, that isn’t too bad so far. MY weight is about 135-140 and holding, but I just found out yesterday there is a gym possibly near where we live here in Pucallpa! My new companion is Elder Aguilar and he’s from Tacna, Peru and is chill.

There is more to say but I don’t have time so until next time!

I love you all,

Elder Morton

1st Letter From Elder Morton from Lima, Peru, 08.27.08

Hey Mom & Dad,
I have reached my mission home in Lima, Peru and the President and his wife are great!
The Elders are nice & my companion is a good guy from what I hear.
All of your packages made it to the mission home. When I get to my area I will see which ones came. I will write you to confirm. I may or may not email you today but if I can I will. So far so good, I am alive and well.
I am excited to teach the gospel to develop a stronger relationship of Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father. It will be hard but I knew that to begin with.
The most important thing is that I concentrate on becoming the best missionary that I can be, so that you all will be blessed spiritually, & temporally, as our faith is tested.
I love you guys and pray for you every day. I know no matter if we work hard with our eyes set on eternal salvation things will work out for the best.
Never give up!
Love,
Rob
