Letter from Elder Morton, 06.08.09

Subject: My purpose has changed
Date: Mon, 8 Jun 2009 14:56

Hey yall!

It's been crazy here in the jungle, but what’s new? Changes are next week so I have no idea what’s going to happen there. I could be changing venues or maybe not. We’ve made it almost a year folks, prepare for the arrival of Elder Morton, it's coming fast!

This change flew by faster than ever. We have made so much progress with the ward here it’s the bomb! The members are more excited about missionary work than when I arrived, and they are actually helping instead of watching us work.

I realized something the other day in regards to my mission as a missionary. I was thinking about changes and becoming senior companion so that I can be a district or zone leader in the next few changes so that I can set a good example for my future generations. I realized that maybe that’s not what God has in mind for me, maybe I’m just supposed to be the best missionary I can be and really become a "real Mormon" so that my future generations can be district, zone leaders and assistants to the President. So I decided to not worry about setting the bar high for my kids but giving them a firm foundation to build upon. My testimony is really growing and I feel like I will be a much better example and of more help to my family and friends when I get home. I really understand the importance of marriage and the family, in which before was just a nice idea to me. On that note what’s new with you guys? Still alive and kicking I hope. How’s everybody’s health doing? Is Rob A readjusting better? How are the grand kids doing? Are my brothers and sisters keeping their noses clean? Jimmie, Fu and the kids working like crazy people as usual? What’s new with Semaj, China, and Zion and the San Francisco crew? Are the young guns still living the dream?

The Rocklin 2nd and 6th wards are still the best in the world and that’s the truth! Is Dad still hanging in there? Is James getting ready to move yet or what? Oh yes and if you could clear my junk mail in the oompa email account to keep it updated that would be great!

Hey Ma are you still in contact with those missionary Mom’s deal and if so please stay in contact with Elder Rich’s mom because I want to visit him and his family when I get home because they really seem like good people. It goes without saying Elder Rich really is a great guy.

I love you guys a whole lot and I look forward to hearing from you next week.

Love,Elder Morton

1st Letter From Elder Morton from Lima, Peru, 08.27.08

Hey Mom & Dad,
I have reached my mission home in Lima, Peru and the President and his wife are great!
The Elders are nice & my companion is a good guy from what I hear.
All of your packages made it to the mission home. When I get to my area I will see which ones came. I will write you to confirm. I may or may not email you today but if I can I will. So far so good, I am alive and well.
I am excited to teach the gospel to develop a stronger relationship of Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father. It will be hard but I knew that to begin with.
The most important thing is that I concentrate on becoming the best missionary that I can be, so that you all will be blessed spiritually, & temporally, as our faith is tested.
I love you guys and pray for you every day. I know no matter if we work hard with our eyes set on eternal salvation things will work out for the best.
Never give up!
Love,
Rob
